The poison of iPhones The iPhone was released in 2007 and was by far the world's most innovative and ground-breaking piece of technology humanity has made in recent times. But 18 years later, the iPhone is by far the worst piece of anything in our world today. And I'm not going to be talking about screen time and other obvious problems, but its the advent of Social Media that has become, what I believe, the reason everyone in America not only hates each other, but also the reason Gen Alpha is not going to recover.
The obvious reason for my projection on this is the politics; EVERYTHING is political; you can't see or do anything without someone or something pushing an agenda on you. And much of this is on social media like Instagram and Twitter. These places will suck you in and never let you out; their algorithms that spoon feed you what you want to see keep you locked in. And I can go on about how they are simply trying to get you to doom-scroll so you stay on their app as long as possible, but that's just the beginning.
The main thing I want to present is that fact that these AI algorithms will give you the things you click on, so all these people going out and calling normal men and women "NAZI" and they don't even know what that word really means, is a result of being fed the same ideologies and the same lies by their algorithms. It's like having a friend group of 5 people that all agree with everything you say and believe all of the time. When no one is there to present a different perspective, not only are you going to slowly become disillusioned by your own beliefs, but you also lose the ability to comprehend disagreement and percieve it as aggression.
But that is why the "Indie Web" is a bright alternative to this infectious disease, it not only ensures the platform you operate on stays in one place (your computer) but also destroys the idea of an algorithm spying on your every move to feed you more content that likely is making you depressed. Spacehey, Neocities and others are examples of websites that do not personalize your browsing habits, but empower you to find what you are looking for.
